While some hills are far back enough for you not to worry about their poor gun depression, I've been in plenty of situations where if I had the gun depression of a Sherman, I would've gotten free kills versus getting killed myself because I had to expose my tank to take the shot. APFSDS is the last and most effective shell youll ever see, only on modern tanks and vehicles. It penetrates more armor, does much greater damage, but it sometimes inaccurate due to how its fired out of the cannon. This is something I really really don't like about Soviet vehicles. APDS, more commonly just called 'Sabot' is Armor-Piercing Discarding Sabot, which is the same idea as APCR but better in every way. You'll have to descend the hill to line your guns up, by that point you've probably just exposed yourself to another tank that will catch a poorly angled spot on your armor and send you back to the hangar. If you're trying to shoot down at a tank that is slightly below you on a hill, you're all kinds of screwed. The lack of gun depression takes away tactical positioning opportunities as well. The Soviet Heavy armor are more or less just glorious heavy cannon movers that have very vulnerable weak points if the right shell hits them. However, I do not care for the Soviet Heavy armor at all nor for the lack of gun depression on the majority of Soviet vehicles. If you intend on playing until top tier, then I'd say USA, but if you wanna just play some WW2 / early Cold War tanks, USSR is great as well.Īs a primarily US Vehicle tree main (both air and ground), Soviets are the easier tree to get in to initially. Ka-Chi is one of the largest tanks in the initial ranks, this is both its advantage and flaw.A flaw, because it is not easy to hide such a whopper, and the distinctive ship’s. I'd recommend going with whoever sounds better to you. The Type 3 Ka-Chi premium amphibious tank is one of the prizes in the War Thunder summer marathon and will be found at rank I in the Japanese research tree. The tier 6s besides the T-62 aren't as competitive from what I hear, same with top tier stuff. They also get uptiered to 8.3 a lot which has T-62s and Chieftains. The T-54s and heavy tanks at tier 5 have bad pen for a BR where you often fight tanks like the Maus, M103, T-10M (arcade), or any other heavies really. However, anything past tier 4 in my opinion isn't worth your time. The USSR is probably the most new player friendly nation, with pretty decent armor (good, but you won't be impenetrable) and OPH- sorry, APHE shells that are very destructive. The US is pretty good at top tier, with the good ol Abrams, but there aren't many backups you can use unless you have something like the XM-1. American heavies are usually some of the best at their tier, examples being the T34 and Jumbo. They can do everything pretty well, but nothing perfect. USA is probably best described as a jack of all trades nation. Yes, you can set what vehicle and what ammo you are firing it with.

Just note I'm not too knowledged on stuff past tier 6. Its recommended to train up your Crew for at least 2-3 crew slots on each of the nations you plan to play, keep note that you should train the following 2-3 slots for different vehicles (for example 1-2 for planes, 1-2 for aircraft) however if you only plan on playing realistic and simulator battles you will only need 1-2 trained crew slots. I've played both nations to tier 6 about, so here's my thoughts.
